Long time since I last blogged. The new house is slmost sorted and even with my special area for painting it is difficult to get back into the routine.
My Jetty Street painting is still awaiting some 'final' touches. It regards me balefully from the corner. I have put paint to another canvas. Two people watching gulls against a dark sky.
Once upon a time I worked best when I had several works on the go. Just have to wait and see.

I am taking photographs though. Here's a couple. One of a recent fireworks display on Cromer Pier, the other taken during a storm.

Almost settled in our new home here in Cromer. This is a photo of my area for painting, right at the top of the house, and shared with Jackie who has taken up quilting, cushion and curtain making.

After a long lay off I've re-started. Having moved to Cromer and many changes have to be made to our new house. A vertical bungalow built in the 19th century. A bit like living in a lighthouse. Contractors are still working and it's not the best environment for painting. But here goes.

This is the grisaille for a painting which will be entitled Jetty Street Cromer. My idea what it might have looked like in the 19th century.

She's finished. Not entirely happy but it is time to move on.

This one has laid fallow for months. Now back on stream. The story once again has grabbed me. Is this Lady Muriel or one of her daughters rising from the waters and gazing upon what might have been her home? How will it develop? Is a painter really in charge, or, are there other forces???

Way to go with this one but thought I'd post it as work in progress. Been lying part finished in the studio for a long time. Seeing another artist's paintings gave me the idea of mixing realism with abstract so far so good.

Every Christmas. At least recent ones we decorate the dining end of the long room. The theme is planets circling the sun. This one was created just prior to Rachel leaving with her fellow for Germany.

I'm struggling with this one. I want very much to tell the story but at present my studio feels like a foreign field. Sir Thomas Tresham died before completing the garden house. But, he had a wife Muriel who had had eleven children. Yet history is strangely quiet about Muriel and the children other than Sir Lewis who became involved with the gunpowder plot and was executed. I believe that Muriel or some of her girl children would gaze at what might have been. Perhaps even ghostly visitations now.

But as I say I am struggling.

Still not sure about the title but I've decided I can go no further. So this is the a final version and it'll be posted on my website. Also it'll go into an exhibition coming up in October.

This is a magical spot in Cumbria, near Derwentwater, visited in 2008. Using it for my painting reflections. Possible double meaning on the word???

Oh! what it is to have a daughter. Rachel looked at my original painting and said 'don't like it'. Looking at it I tended to agree and re-worked it going back to my usual practice of blending and more blending. Whilst the original got good comments at a recent exhibition I am hopeful that the new version will sell???

Having cast aside my disappointment about 'disappointmentt' I am returnning to the 'Room with many windows'. The model has now commenced the dance. My thanks once again to Tony my cyberac photographer as referred to in my earlier post.
I just hope I can do the model justice for I now discover she is in America dancing with the Circe du Soleil. Wow.
Long ways to go on this one.

Finished, signed and temporarily framed. Did I learn a lesson. Couple days ago put it in it's frame and all of the horizontals were off and one vertical. Lesson - put in frame at composition time. Goes into an exhibition in April, after varnishing.

Hooray. Whilst a painting is never finished to the artist's total satisfaction there comes a point where a signature is applied. Now to the next one. This work has returned me to one of my first favourite subjects - human expressions, either by action or the face.

A new model. A two hour session produced 200 images. Not all satisfactory but I'm still in the learning stage. An essential feature is to look at the whole setting before pressing the 'go' button. I particularly liked this one of Laurita looking into the mirror.

Emma who became my Modigliani

It's sometimes interesting going through old records. I came across this work which I painted early in 2008. Sadly the painting was not completed cos' my model Emma set off on the high seas never to be seen again. At least not by me. Shame, she had the most wonderful sense of humour. If ever she does see this perhaps she might think of the giggling effect!
